Hellooo! Amanda Shafer, owner of Broom Book & Candle here. Creepaway Camp is my bloody brainchild. Combine the isolation of being a weird kid in the VERY rural South, being raised by wolves with Monstervision’s Joe Bob Briggs as your imaginary funcle and loving nothing more than spending your young lifesavings on Goosebumps books at every Scholastic Book Fair, and you’ve got a fair picture of the creator brain in question.
Forever scarred by being denied the childhood experience of summer camp misadventures, I could have sought healing in years of therapy — instead, I’m putting slasher-level persistance and dedication into creating the sleepaway camp experience of my (and, if you’re here, probably your) horror-loving dreams.
The Mission
CREATE AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE FOR HORROR FANS - An authentic summer camp experience for adults with archery, cabins games, campfire stories and all the trimmings - but MAKE IT HORROR.
CREATE A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY FOR HORROR AUTHORS AND CREATORS TO CONNECT WITH FANS - Exclusive ‘Creepaway Camp Counselor’ VIP spots give authors and creators a chance to be part of the action - participate in panel discussions, lead workshops and fun camp activities, sell books and merch and connect deeply with super fans!
DO IT FOR THE GENRE! Horror is due to have its day and we’re doing our part to amplify creative voices, create safe spaces for exploration of the genre and foster a community for fans and creators.
